I'm Heading to NYC... Got Any Hot Tips?

Your favorite foodie is taking a bite out of the Big Apple 🍎

Hi foodie,

Surprise! I’m flying to New York City tomorrow for a quick work trip — and I haven’t been in over 10 years 😱 So naturally, I’m turning to you — my awesome community — for help.

I know many of you live in NYC (or have visited recently), and I’d love to hear your recommendations. I won’t have a ton of free time, but I want to make the most of it — eat great food, walk around the coolest neighborhoods, and maybe find a hidden gem or two.

Hi, it’s me… in Rome!

Whether you're a born-and-raised New Yorker or just a curious traveler with a favorite memory — send me your best tips:

  • Where to eat (street food? delis? bakeries?)

  • Where to go (cool spots, not-too-touristy)

  • What I must see or try

👉 You can reply directly to this email or send me a DM on Instagram @thecookingfoodie. I’ll be checking everything on the plane ✈️

🥄 But wait, let’s not forget the food!

Classic Cheesecake

A rich, creamy, and smooth baked cheesecake that never fails to impress. Whether you’re making it for a dinner party or just because, this classic dessert is timeless — with a buttery crust, luscious filling, and simple vanilla flavor that makes it unforgettable.

🍛 Chicken Curry

This curry is pure comfort in a bowl — juicy chicken simmered in a fragrant blend of spices, garlic, ginger, and coconut milk. It’s perfect for a cozy night in, easy enough for a weeknight, and even better the next day (hello, meal prep win!).

🥣 Homemade Granola

Crispy, toasty, and lightly sweetened, this granola is loaded with oats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. Great with yogurt, milk, or just by the handful. The best part? You can customize it however you like.

🍰 Swedish Almond Cake

This flourless almond cake is incredibly moist and tender with a delicate nutty flavor. It’s simple to make, naturally gluten-free, and goes perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea. A Scandinavian gem you’ll want to make again and again.

🥬 Spanakopita

Flaky phyllo pastry, a creamy spinach-feta filling, and golden, crisp layers — this traditional Greek spinach pie is the ultimate savory pastry. It’s great as a main dish, side, or even packed in lunchboxes.

🥟 Beef Empanadas

Golden, flaky pastry stuffed with a juicy, spiced beef filling — these empanadas are perfect as a snack, appetizer, or even a dinner with a salad on the side. They also freeze well, so make a big batch and thank yourself later.

🥦 Broccoli Salad

Fresh, crunchy, and full of texture, this broccoli salad is anything but boring. It’s tossed with a creamy dressing, and packed with nuts or seeds, optional cheese, and dried fruits for a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory. Great as a side dish or light lunch — and totally meal-prep friendly.

📝 P.S.
When I’m back, would you like me to write a little “NYC foodie recap” post? Maybe something like “Where I Ate in NYC in 48 Hours” — let me know if you're into that!
