Authentic French Hot Chocolate (Café-Style Recipe)

My Favorite Winter Ritual: French Hot Chocolate

Hi foodie,

If you’ve been following along lately, you probably noticed I’ve been on a bit of a hot chocolate journey. I recently shared my Italian hot chocolate — thick, comforting, and spoon-worthy.
But today, I’m taking you somewhere very close to my heart.

Every year when I’m skiing in the French Alps, there’s one ritual I never skip: stopping at a small café, warming my hands, and ordering a cup of French hot chocolate. Rich, elegant, and unbelievably creamy, this is the version I keep craving long after the snow melts.

So naturally, I had to recreate it at home.

French Hot Chocolate (Chocolat Chaud)

This classic French hot chocolate is thick, silky, and intensely chocolatey, closer to melted ganache than a regular cocoa. It’s made with real dark chocolate (no cocoa powder), gently melted into milk and cream for that iconic café-style texture.
