A Week in White: Stories, Comfort, and Recipes Revealed

Secrets of the Slopes: What Kept Me Warm This Winter

Hi foodie,

Last week, I traded my apron for ski gear and spent a dreamy week in Avoriaz, France. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and a magical alpine atmosphere, it was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Whether I was gliding down powdery slopes or warming up by the fire, one thing was certain—comfort food was always on my mind.

The view from my room

Skiing is one of my favorite things in the world—I look forward to it all year long. But a ski vacation isn’t just about hitting the slopes; it’s also about the food. European ski villages are famous for their comforting dishes, perfect for warming you up on cold, snowy days.

Here’s a glimpse of what I enjoyed during this incredible week: deliciously creamy lasagna, tartiflette, shepherd's pie, countless pizzas, sweet crêpes, hearty pastas, indulgent hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, and, of course, at least two Aperol spritzes a day.

Yes, I know, most of these dishes are rich and not exactly healthy—but after a few hours of intense skiing, this is precisely what your body craves. It’s all about indulging and enjoying the moment!

Every day at 11, it’s time for hot chocolate with whipped cream—it has become a ritual.

This trip made me want to share some delicious and comforting dishes with you that I think will warm you up this winter. And here’s is my top recipes:

Thin, delicate, and versatile, French crêpes are perfect for both sweet and savory fillings. From Nutella and strawberries to ham and cheese, they’re a timeless treat for any occasion.

A French alpine specialty made with layers of potatoes, crispy bacon, onions, and creamy Reblochon cheese. It’s the ultimate indulgence for a cold winter day.

Hot Chocolate

Warm, velvety, and topped with a generous dollop of whipped cream, this classic hot chocolate is pure comfort in a mug.

A Mediterranean favorite, this dish layers tender eggplant, spiced ground meat, and a luscious béchamel sauce for a flavorful and hearty meal.

Creamy, cheesy, and irresistibly gooey, this ultimate comfort food is perfect for satisfying cravings on a chilly day.

Chicken Curry

A fragrant and flavorful dish, this curry combines tender chicken, aromatic spices, and a creamy sauce for a warming and hearty meal.

As I reflect on this magical week in Avoriaz, I’m reminded that comfort comes in many forms—whether it’s the thrill of skiing down snowy slopes, the warmth of a cozy dish, or sharing these moments with you. I hope these recipes bring a touch of that alpine magic to your home and keep you warm this winter.
